Gianrico Carofiglio

Gianrico Carofiglio was born in 1961 and is an anti-Mafia prosecutor living in Bari, Southern Italy. He has been responsible for the area's most important indictments regarding organized crime, corruption and human trafficking. He is also the best-selling author of the Guerrieri novels, a Bari-set series of legal noirs, praised by The New Yorker as "crisp, ironical novels that are as much love stories and philosophical treatises as they are legal thrillers."

His most recent novel is THE PAST IS A FOREIGN COUNTRY, a superb novel of psychological suspense that sold over 200,000 copies in Italy. It will be published in the United States in Spring 2009.

The Past is a Foreign Country

The Sunday Times (UK): "A stunner, an intense psychological drama set in Bari where a restless law student is drawn into a life of criminality. Self-deception and corruption are at the heart of this unforgettable novel, which also offers a kind of bitter redemption."

The Guardian (UK): "A fascinating, succinct and stylish thriller."
